I've gone through about 3 or 4 ST-E2 transmitters. IMO, they're ok for a short period of time but they easily break down / get damaged (but then again I thrash my gear out). I just use a 580EXII x 2 & 550EX for master and slave duties, and they haven't failed (unless they fall into a river)
