I dont think its bad buying a last gen camera, its still a great camera and will do everything he wants and more and you will save money to spend on lenses.

ok, ive decided to to spend a little extra and get a mid-level.
i was looking at the 50D but now my mind seems to be drifting towards the Nikon d300 which ive heard good things about from online and from a friend who has one. He suggested that its worth spending a little extra for it. what do you guys think. is the extra worth it? |

its not really double the price
the 50D is ~$1650 body only the D300 is ~$2050 body only i havent been able to find a good twin kit package for the d300, if only it had image stabilisation too. |

only the cheap cameras come with lenses, and those lenses suck. get the 18-250 VR lens and you'll be happy. I also dont think there is much out there that can touch the d300, cept perhaps the 5d canon.

I'm a semi-professional wedding/commercial photographer and have used Canon and Mamiya camera's for the past 10 years (yes, even before the digital revolution). Can i just say that the actual camera does not make you a better photographer. I've taken better photos from a disposable camera that my mates with a Canon 5D. I would recommend a cheaper body and invest more in the glass ie, the Lens . As your skills improve you may want the added features however as long as you have complete manual control of the camera and some custom functions you will be well on your way. I would highly recommend the 'L' series lenses from Canon but also look at any equivalent from Nikon. My most used lens is the 24-70 Canon L Series F2.8. Brilliant piece of equipment. Sharp as a tack!

^^ agree, the lenses hold there value better aswell and a 40d is gonna give you virtually the same results as a 50d unless your shooting at iso 1600 and above all the time haha, my 5d is still a fine camera to use I dont "need" to upgrade takes fine photos.

ok guys, exams over, time to reward my self and get a camera.
Ive decided to buy the 450D, mainly because i figured id rather spend the extra money on seeing more of europe, rather than shooting some of it. ive found the 450D twin lens kit for $1399 from Myer (its 1380 from cameras direct). i get the: EF 18-55 IS f3.5-5.6 EF 55-250 IS f4.5-5.6 i also get 10% (discount card) and a further 10% (when i travel) so what do u guys think? would those lenses do for travelling pourposes? landscape shots mostly, some with people in the shots etc and just general snapping of interesting people/places/buildings. cheers wanna buy this 2moro so quick feedback much appreciated.
