Copyright
I was just wondering about copyright for photographs.
From what I can gather, you automatically gain copyright for images you take (unless you were taking it for your employer), but to see any royalties, you must be a member of CAL. (im guessing unless you sign a release form for $$) Is anyone a member here? or isnt it worth the bother? What sort of rights do you have if you see your photos being used somewhere without your permission? and has anyone been in that situation before? |

What's cal? The monies you get paid and usage of the photos depend on your contract. If anyone has used any of your pics without authorisation then you can sue.. Simple as that. It'd however be more appropriate to write a nice letter outlining what they're doing wrong and request compensation with legal action to follow. It helps if you know a lawyer here so he/she can draft one up for you in a company letterhead.

This is the page i found last night, although now i read a little more, i think the CAL (Copyright agency Limited) is just an option you have for chasing up monies, by getting them to do the chasing for you. I found this also just then: http://www.copyright.org.au/informat...ign/visart.htm http://www.copyright.org.au/pdf/acc/...s_pdf/G011.pdf So basically you take photos, and if you see someone using them without your prior permission, you ask them nicesly for dosh. As soon as you take the photo you have the copyright of it unless:
- it's a photo taken in a national park and you want to sell it then you need to have their approval - photo taken of a person....you need their approval - photos which are identical copies of other peoples photos (they use some sort of criteria to decide whether you have replicated somebody elses photo) had a pdf somewhere but thats pretty much it
