Big W photobooks
The wife insisted on getting a photo book done from big w as they had a special on. I cant argue with her when she starts a project so I supplied the photos and she put the book together and sent off for printing.
And the result. HAHAHAHAHA worse than a $64 kmart printer using recycled photocopy paper. Naturally she complained and they said the problem was my camera. Damn Canon 5D and 24-70L isnt good enough for postcard sized printing. Just a heads up in case anyone considered getting a coffee table book done for their family or what ever. Im going to try snapfish and blurb next and see who's books print better.

Yeah, a friend of mine owns a print shop in the city, might have a chat to him. Really need something the wife can use online to order. Might even give the online apple shop ones a go.

That sucks, but strange. Seem some pretty good ones come out from there.
What was wrong with it, just the quality??? |

The photos look dark and dull, they are soft and have a lot of blockiness/artifacts. The paper is thin and porous. Certain lettering has half letters/chopped letters, even the font is not sharp and looks blurry. The background pattern has a squashed aspect ratio. They cut the bleed off centre meaning the margins are uneven.
Those are the main issues. They will be giving us a refund after I send the scan the pages and send to head office, in the last 10 years of jobs I have sent to print as a graphic designer, this is easily the worst job I have ever seen.

I know I push iPhoto for the Mac but their photo books are amazing.
I have done 2 through them now and everybody that sees them can't believe the quality. You do it all via iPhoto and upload to the internet via iPhoto. If I were a PC user, I would use snapfish for sure. |

I know Dan will put a +1 vote for the mac program..hes seen a whole bunch of them on an apple training course he did a while back and rekons they look the shiz.. and you can design at home straight from iphoto (if you have it)
All the display photo books ive seen in the last couple of weeks in photo shops etc all looked absolutely shit house. The demo one in one place was even falling apart. Ok they get looked at alot... but what do they think you are going to do with the one you buy? Stick it in a box to preserve it? If the whole idea is to coffee table it for frequent display youd think theyd put together a new demo one ! retards. I recently asked about getting some coffee mugs done - 3 weeks they rekon. get farked !
