Home Theatre Systems

I need a bit of advice on what's good and what's not. Have had a look at a few speaker setups but not sure on what's value for money etc.....I already have a receiver so just need a 5:1 setup to go with it as not looking to spend a fortune but want something worth the dollars. Really after a free standing system, bigger drivers etc... Here is a few I have looked at, thoughts?

Any feedback on this one would be great OM950

BOSE ACOUSTIMASS 6 S3 SPEAKER SYSTEM
Not free standing but its Bose?

This is nice but the most expensive of the lot

Not sure about this one but it's cheap

stay away from BOSE...

I auditioned quiet a few systems around the 2k range for 5.1

I ended up with a Jamo S606 5.1 system - got it for $1100 from Harveys in the end. Best sound by far.

Stay away from cheap and nasty shit like Accusound. 8ohm, terrible sensitivity, rubbish sound.
BOSE are overpriced and wankery. Decent, but only purchase if you can get a really good deal.
Energy and PSB are quite nice speakers for the price.

Might help to state a budget before people start dropping brand names.

Cheers guys, budget around $1500, the receiver I have is a Pioneer VSX 918. I saw in another thread you recommended that system too Tode. Might check it out.

I just got quoted $3k for the Jamo system without the amp????

Will you be using this system to listen to music as well?
Personally what I would do (and what I have done) is use the $1500 to buy a pair of entry level front towers and a decent sub. Use cheapies for centre and rears if you really need surround sound.

I would much rather listen to a nice 2.1 system than a cheap all-in-one satellite speaker package.

Can't agree with you craig...I'm running accusound speakers thru an onkyo receiver and couldn't be happier. Also tried more expensive stuff but i'm quite happy with this. Obviously there are better but for the $1k-$2k range this is more than enough. I absolutely love the bass...you're more than welcome to come and listen to my setup Jaron.

Having a look at their webiste i've got these:

love the subi and not sure of the prices on their website...i got mine around $2k for the whole system (2 fronts, 2 back, centre + sub) from harvies

Cheers Pete!

I am waiting to hear back from HN regarding the Jamo S606, hoping to get close to the deal Tode got :D Went to HN Cannington and the lowest they'd go is $2.5 on special that's without the Amp ($4k with the amp).

That's fine, everyone's ears are different.
I will say though, the Accusounds that you have are far better spec'd than the entry level Accusound speakers that were posted earlier, and the entry level ones I've auditioned ;)

Looks like it has come down to these 2.........great prices on both.

Klipsch is $300 more

or the Jamo S606.

Haven't heard either of them, will go and check them out tomorrow.

Cheers for all your help guys!

I've got Energy speakers, have had for the last 5 years and they still sound fantastic. They weren't that exxy either.
