Default What is a good camera...calling all photographers

Hi guys,

in a few weeks i'll be heading off to South America, and i need a digital camera, looking for something of the durable point and shoot compact variety, capable of taking good photos (mainly landscapes i'm guessing) looking at spending around $250, more if it's warranted, what would your recommendations be???

I have a Nikon DSLR but it will be too bulky and is worth too much to take along with me.

Cheers in advance,

_daz_

LOL i just found it, is very helpful, but was hoping to find out more about durability, i'll be heading into some pretty rugged areas so i'm expecting the camera will cop a thrashing, i should just hijack his thread (=

what sort of a beating will that Lumix FT1 take???

you can drop it from 2m or soemthing onto rocks and it will bounce. ask moar questions in that thread or go to the panasonic website and just read the specs.
