Looking for a Basic DSLR
Can anyone reccomend a basic DLSR and approx price to pay. I just need to move up from a basic point and shoot arrangement.
Thanks in advance

Shane I recommend having a look at the Nikon D90 as its records video as well and is easy to use. The body only can be had for less than $800.

Canon EOS 550D.
Easy to use, good quality, and arguably more people using Canon's so you can get a lot of hints, tips, and swap lenses with your mates. |

Will do anything you need and more.

Sorry to hijack thread
But if you are looking at the Canon EOS 550D or any other DSLR, would it be better to buy from a camera shop since they can offer you package deals - ie lenses, one day crash course to learn the basics, or buy from jb hifi etc? |

Ive had my canon 550D for about a month now and am loving it, starting youtube videos with it, just about to buy a RODE shotgun mic for it to. Along with all the great pictures it can take, and if u understand DSLR's a bit more full manual mode can do amazing things, but i really love that it can record at 24fps which is what most movies are filmed in all at 1080 aswell.
made a few joke vids with my mate to test it out here: http://www.youtube.com/user/cougermoon (ill make more if ppl like em) But still have lots of learning to do even after reading all the manuals and a bunch of online guides. DSLR's are a different world of photo taking hope this helps Cheers Will |

oh and to Cinaber, i got mine from JB hifi, i did some haggeling and got it reduced with a tripod, 16gb card, bag etc etc so i saved around $300 from going there were as camera house barely helped me at all with advice and wanted a lot more for it.. Oh and that was with a 2 lense kit (even though the kit lenses arnt best quality they still are good to get started with).
hope this helps |

Got my 5D from JB in Canningvalle, took a lot of haggling and I managed to smash a lot off the price after dealing with all the major shops around Perth. Managed to get ebay pricing without the ebay risk. I think the shop assistant was called Anhela, i've gone back and bought a few other camera items from her and they've all been well priced.
