Default Nikon D80 - Flashing "Err" code

Hey photo buffs...

Got the dreaded flashing "Err" on my D80... Google says it's most likely the aperture control unit; been quoted by Hartland Camera Repairs in Perth (authorised Nikon repairer) at $312.95 .

Just that work is scarce at the moment & can't afford that sort of $$$... is it worth it to fix, or should I save up the pennies & get a body upgrade? Obviously can't afford that right now, either. Anyone know another repairer who may be able to do better? Either that or it looks like I'll be without my DSLR for quite a while .

Cheers

When my nikon went bonkers with Err it was the shutter jammed.

No word of a lie, I fixed by getting my rage on and throwing it on a table a couple of feet away.

Boom, worked again, till the day I sold it and still works with new owner.

Umm, yeh.. not that desperate as yet... I can get it back to normal mode by removing lens then inhibiting the mirror actuation with a finger when I push the take button. Then I replace the lens and I'm good for one shot before the Err returns. But I'll be damned if I'm gonna continue that way, nor am I keen to keep doing it.

Any other suggestions?

on the d70 i'm using, ERR would appear when there was an issue with the CF card, i just popped out and reinsert the card while the camera is still on, then it goes good. probably a bad contact in my case.

This sometime happens with my D7k when using ebay spec SD cards

Have you tried a different lens? My Tokina gives the err code occasionally on my D90, but taking it off and putting it back on again sorts it. Good luck, I hope you can sort it without the expense!

Changing lenses makes no difference; the fault is definitely in the body.

Any other suggestions peeps? Had a squizz on eBay for low shutter count Oz delivered examples but they are chasing upwards of $400 for them. Would luv to step up a notch to the D90 but of course more $$$ I just don't have Don't wanna step down either, as the D80 was the best all round specs for my purposes.

Anyone know of other good repairers I could contact?
