White balance is manually adjustable between 3000k -5500k -6500k or auto. I tried it on 6500k - no improvement.

Didn't get to try the 3000k/5500 settings because the weather went overcast.

To be honest I don't even know if white balance is meant for that I just tried it to see the difference.

I know fuckall about camera as you can tell...

The issue is basically the contrast difference between inside and outside the car. Currently the camera is getting the appropriate aperture for inside making outside saturated. White balance won't do anything.

I haven't look at a GoPro 3 manual but what you need to do is get it to fix it's aperture on a spot rather than a wide pattern if possible.

Essentially it's one or the other though, the apature will be either set up for inside the car or outside the car with the alternative area being to bright or too dark respectively.

The other answer is to tint your windscreen

try turning the spot meter function on. EDIT: thought default was on, its off so what i said before was wrong.

But at the end of the day your trying to do the job of a minimun 2 cameras with 1 camera, you cant expect miracles.

page 32 of the online manual shows you how to do it.

Tony has it up there ... it will always be a compromise what ever the metering pattern is.

Thank you for the help gents I just found the spot meter function. Doh!

Will test it over the next few days as its gonna be sunny.

Turn on Spot Meter when filming from within a dark space pointing the
camera into a brighter setting, such as filming the outdoors from within a car.
When Spot Meter is set to ON, appears in the LCD window.

Adjust the exposure mate.

I have a Drift HD Ghost and i adjust the exposure according to the light conditions.

Similar setup to you i have a suction cup with extended arm from the rear windscreen.

Umm please explain??

I don't see any exposure adjustment in the manual.

Cheers.

Hmm it might be called something different for the Go Pro but on my camera i have an EXP setting and i set it to (-1) if it's overcast, and (+1) if it's sunny...or it could be the other way around lol.

Basically if i don't set it, then i can see the cabin crystal clear, but out the windscreen it's too bright or too dark. Perhaps some camera pros can chime in.

EDIT:
Found this in the manual:

"(Advanced Users) The exposure setting determines the camera’s sensitivity to light. If
conditions are very bright (eg. sun on snow), use a negative value. For dark conditions
(eg. dusk), use a positive value. Most of the time 0 can be used."
