Default Factory ECU for peanut WRX

Hey guys

I'm wondering if there ever was any factory ECU update that was rolled out for the peanut WRX (late 02 - early 05 model)? Or is the ECU the same and never updated through out the life of the model?

If I remember correctly, the ECU hardware is the same, the software is different.

Sorry that's actually what I meant. Software wise, was it updated at all ever since the peanut WRX debuted till through the end of the model's life?

Thanks for the info!

I wonder if Stechnic has the latest updates for each model.

p.s. It boggles the mind how do you know these things! Do you also happen to know the differences between the updates for the peanut(I would believe its mainly 03 - 05)?

There isn't a 'latest' update really.

Each one will be ever so slightly different for some reason or another.

Don't go 'updating' as a 05 rom may not work on a 03 etc. I can't remember if the 03's got variable cam timing for instance. Any critical updates would be done by a dealer.

The rom just gives you the basis for if you go to get tuned. Each rom may store information in a slightly different position, so you need to know which rom definitions to use to tune the car.

Why are you wanting different software? If its for performance just get a verso tune?

03 has AVCS, the first of the wrx's with it actually. There are no official updates for -03 to -05 wrxs.
I would say you could use an 05 ecu in an 03 car. AS long as the input/output's are the same. But whats the point?
There may be small differences in the software, but it will mainly be centred around efficiency and economy.
Kato's right. Only dealerships have access to software updates from Subaru.
Just ECUtek it, or Verso

I'm with the others.. go get re-tuned (Verso or ECUtek) and you will notice a huge difference. :-)
