Subaru News: BRZ Takes Super GT300 Top 3 Finish
R&D SPORT, the Subaru BRZ racing arm taking part in Asia's Super GT 2016 Series have once again put their machine on the podium in GT300. Finishing 3rd in their last race at Fuji Speedway, the No. 61 Subaru BRZ pilots, Takuto Iguchi and Hideki Yamauchi took their rightful place on the third step, for what is a second consecutive podium finish. R&D Sport was edged out only by the No. 21 Audi R8 LMS of Hitotsuyama, while a hard-fought tussle saw the No. 55 entry from Arta - a BMW M6 GT3 - take first place as driven by Takagi and Takashi Kobayashi. With 10 laps left in the race the gap to No. 55 was down to about three seconds, and with five laps to go it was down to less than two seconds. Coming out of the final Panasonic Corner, car 21 pulled tight into the slipstream of car No. 55. But, Kobayashi put the spurs into his BMW M6 GT3 in an all-out attempt to outrun Lyons to the chequered flag drop, in what was a margin of just 0.106 seconds. Team R&D Sport then brought their BRZ home just 10 seconds down the track, some 18 seconds ahead of the MANEPA LAMBORGHINI GT3, and GOODSMILE HATSUNE MIKU's MERCEDES AMG GTS in third and fourth. The next tour of the Super GT heads to SUZUKA for Round 6, on the 27th and 28th of August.
