iv just recently bought my mates WRX off him.

its a 99/2000 model. dont know much about the car except i got it cheap coz the head gasket blew. so i thought it would be better to replace the whole engine.

Unless there is other damage to the heads / valves / pistons / rods / ringlands just remove the heads and replace the head gaskets.
Simple and far far cheaper than replacing the whole engine.

The question i would be asking is why the gasket went in the first place ?
Leaking radiator that led to an engine overheat. ?
Overboost problem ?

Also if the 99/00 WRX you bought was running a standard factory ecu and air flow meter with an oiled filter expect to destroy another engine pretty quickly.

99/00 WRX's Air Flow Meters do not like oiled filter period. This is a proven engine combo killer!!!

Foxey is selling a replacement unopened EJ205 engine...should be in good nik, see here:

ummm yeah i was thinking about just replacing the head gasket at subaru but there quoting about 2-3k.

the car has been looked after and has got a few engine mods.

anyone here that knows of anyone that may fix the head gasket.

the engine seems to rattle a bit could this be because there is water mixing with the oil?

What does the oil look like? Milky?
What does the water look like, similar?
Define rattle, when it's cold? All the time? Light? Like a calypso band?

hey guys really appreciate your help.

the oil looks normal and the water does to until it dissapears.

if you put water in the radiator and leave it for a day or 2 it diassapears. no leaks or nothin. thats why my mate took it to subaru and they said he has a busted head gasket. the engine has a light rattle to it cant really describe it. when we turned the car on it was rattling not sure if it dissapears if the engine warms up. maybe i can record it and post it on here and have some of you guys tell me what you think?

Is it like a knock knock knock noise when idling, but more of a rattle when you give it a few revs?
