Default WTB new motor

Hey guys

In the next couple of weeks i will be in the market for a new motor, i was thinking about a STI motor. Don't know a whole lot about the mechanical side, currently i have a 94 motor but want to replace it with something newer does anyone know if a newer motor will bolt in the same and also keeping in mind not having to change ECU and any other supporting mods.

Pm if you have something or know where i could get a motor from and for how much roughly, will ring JWS tommorow.

cheers steve

Wouldn't buying a front halfcut be easier. From what I understand you will need to change ECUs if you are planning on a newer motor like a 205/207. Wiring loom etc...

Was considering a front cut, just need to find out whats the newest motor that will bolt in and yeah keeping in mind not having to go down the track of changing ECUs and wiring looms.

Was hoping for a motor between 97/00 (a v3 would be ideal) so if anyone knows if they will fit let me know .

if iam unable to upgrade the motor to a newer one i guess the next option is to rebuild the one i have??

Depends what you wanna do. If you want to keep your heads you can go for pretty much any EJ20. If you require heads then the newest you can go without too much stuff around is 98. 99 the manifolds and heads changed so earlier wont fit. Easiest way is to keep your inlet manifold so you dont have to change any wiring, ecus etc.

Spoke to JWS, they told me the only motors i could go would be 94 to 96, 97 to 99 would be too much stuffing around ie. manifold, coils and wiring. can anyone one make this more clear and tell me exactly what would be invold if i bought a 97to 99 motor.

In all honesty if your motor is still in good condition & you're not going for a somplete STI upgrade you are wasting your time & money, just re condition it as there is a good chance it's a closed deck block, just drop some forgies in it as the later ones aren't that much faster or better.
Your best option is to buy a 97 V3 STI front cut, you'll get one of the best motors Subaru ever built, 4.44 Gearbag, Alloy control arms, 4 Pots, Proper forged pistons, climate control air con & a pretty aggressive computer that should easily get you into the high 12's with very minor mods (zorst & CAI)
You'd be better off stripping out everything from the windscreen forward on both yours & the cut inc. dash & all wiring & doing a straight swap.....everything will fit but it's usually one of the more expensive cuts to buy................ but well worth it in the end.
Been there done that.

Yeah thanks for that PIMPREZA. only problem is its going in a brumby so most mods wont swap over. I already have the autronic smc , front mount, zorst, CAI, and V4 STI gearbox and currently getting a 13.2 1/4 mile.

would love to get a V3 sti motor just need to know where i can get one from and how much, i currently have a fellow member helping me out but only make sense to get a few prices.

cheers guys

Default motor

Just get a new EJ207 shortblock@$3000,put some 97-98 heads on it and you should have a good reliable setup.
