Where are you off to?
Have you got a stop over in melbourne sydney on the way? i.e. it is out of season at the moment over there and you will get some mad specials. If you are off to europe go into the main town i.e. if you are skiing at the cairngorms in Scotland go into glascow or if you are skiing in japan go into tokyo as the will also have some great specials. There are 2 numbers that matter when you buy a jacket. The waterproof and the breathability. I always get them mixed up but the highest one can go is 20 000 and the highest the other can go is 16 000. It really is a case of the more you pay the better the stuff you get. Also the more expensive jackets seems to be the less outlandish. Have a look how cold it is going to be where you are going because you might need thermals / balaclava / beanie / helmet. Also get some good socks. Dont be surprised when they are $40+ a pair they are worth every cent. Have a look at this website if you are off to europe. It will give you an idea of what you will have to pay and they have a pretty good range. http://www.ellis-brigham.com/ Hope this helps. Brendon

buy it in Japow, should be reasonably priced. May also have some of last years stock.
My mate works there and said the only thing killing it for equipment is the obvious, "exchange rate" dont wear two pairs of sock, big no no enjoy the powder for me ok |

I would not worry about buying the boots. The hire ones are good. I would just get gloves (and inners), pants, goggles, several thermals and either a helmet or a balaclava. You dont need a helmet persay but it is really good for keeping your head warm!
