yellow sticker need help :(
hey guys i unfortunately got a yellow last nite by 3 highway cops who even put the sticker on sudeways on my windscreen! the major thing i need help with is my wheels. ive got a 2000 GC8 and i got done for lowering
does anyone have any 18" rims with good tyres i could borrow for a day just to raise my car n get over pits? would be awesome if anyone could lend us a hand as im pretty stressed cos the guy only gave me 7 days aswell, and with uni and work kind of sucks!!! cheers guys :) |
How will 18" rims help?
|
wont it raise it a bit? ive got the my02 rims on atm with low pro tyres, thinkin 18's or rims with bigger tyre's may raise it a bit
|
Technically it works out a little higher because of the added inch but the profile of the tyre will reduce it. So you may gain like 50mm maybe.
|
The overall diameter is about the same... To raise it the 1 or so inches, the tyres would need to be 1 inch bigger all round. Sure it will increase the right height, but you will look like one of those monster trucks and will not pass coz the wheels overall diameter is too big.
Get the stock suspension put back in. Someone here may lend you the springs. :) |
ok ill post up for that :) just wonderin tho where can i get it put back in for like cheap :( lol
|
Buy coilovers so you can wind them up or down. Not cheap, but its already saved me once.

I thought coilovers were illegal???? or can you get a permit for them?? Cheers, Daren |
Wouldnt have thought changing the rim size will help. As the rim size gets larger the profile size of the tyre gets smaller, so that if you change the rims the overall circumference of the wheels and tyres is the same. You will most likely need to change the springs to get it above the legal ride height.

yeh i would just dont have the funds atm, just bought the car 6 months ago n paying off the loan still |
I have a pair of stock front struts you can have man! :-)
|
exactly how low is your ride dude..??
|
If you are that low to get a yellow, putting on a bigger rim will do nothing to help. If you put on tyres/rims that are too big you will not get through the pits.
Car needs to be 100mm off the ground, just make it so. |
Don't mean to sound dumb, but what does sticking the yellow on sideways mean???
|

hahaha means you need to tilt your head to read it! |
Don't mean to sound dumb, but what does sticking the yellow on sideways mean???
Apparenlty, its put on that way if the cops want the inspectors to be harsh. Usually due to you being a smart arse when you were pulled over, or they were just cunts. :) |
i heard the same
|

Very carefully slide a razor under one corner and lift it off. Make it straight as possible. Leaving it sideways will mean the dudes at the pits will give you hell. Its and unwritten and fully denied rule. I would expect that you probably did something to tick the officer off such as back-chat or some other driving offence he could not prove you did. Thats generally how it happens. |
I have a pair of stock front struts you can have man! :-)
haha wat about the back jeff :P the back is whats tucked under the guard lol and the car is only 60 - 65 mm off the floor :( so got a fair bit of height to go lol |
where was this?? not freo by any chance?
|
I got a set of 97 GX springs in the shed.
99 percent sure they'll go right in and make it land cruiser spec... |
60mm off the ground? How the hell do you drive that around??
Anyhoo, what mods do you have to get it that low? I'd be reversing anything that makes the car lower (lips, skirts, spoilers etc) and putting in some stock springs. |
u should only be that low if u have coilovers! cos when u get the sticker u jus wind em! :D
|
OMG...if ur car is really that low...u prob wouldnt even make it up the pits...:P
|
fk thats pretti low...
|
i've got stock suspension with stock springs on taken out from my GC8.. u can borrow it if u want to. let me know.
|
take a photo... i wanna see that!
|

+1 scrapper!! |
Shit!!! Standard ride height is 160mm, how the fuck do you drop 4"....cut the springs?
|
he has to have cut springs...there is no way any lowered springs can go that low..my car was same as his by the sounds of it when I got it..until went over a bump and the rears fell out the struts...now got coilovers its lower than it was before..and yes its a c*nt of a thing to drive if U tune out and forget to be aware..of everything! lol and I cant make it up or down my driveway without laying timber planks first...lucky I dont have a licence so dont have to do that too often..when I get it back i'll rethink the ride height...
btw dude seems blommers got u sorted but if u wanna borrow my stock struts and can find some decent springs ur more than welcome. |

eventually the nice guy peeled off the sticker n put it on straight for me.
couldnt you do that yourself? when they leave? |
60mm is easy with the right bits in it
|
Mate I would use this as a time to some new springs put in or second hands but something slightly higher. You can still have them guards just above the wheels and get over, As you will only have this problem again
So glad i didnt go that low just dont have time to be going to the pits like that lol |
Just a thought.... Maybe he means its lowered 60mm, not 60mm off the ground? Just a thought, after all, there's been bigger confusion than that on here before!
|
nah it is 60mm off the ground at the lowest point of the exhaust. ive only got the 02 wrx rims on it but well tucked under the guard at the back. im gonna go over on friday just as it is so i know for sure what needs fixing because the cops were just saying stuff to be checked not specifically that its illegal.
i know for sure i will need to get some springs so thanks guys for the help :) i will PM you guys on the weekend to find out if i need to borrow some. thanks heaps again :) |
where was this?? not freo by any chance?
nah it was in the city just down near the convention centre |
With the costs of pit inspection fees and the time you waste at the pits, I'd be changing the springs before you go over. Because they may not point anything else out that needs changing, why not give yourself the best chance of passing.
PS - You must be using very negative camber at that clearance!! What did they right on the defect notice/paper they gave you?? What were they defecting you for? |
Yeah dude change it before you go over -be nuts not to. Rock up with it slammed that hard they are going to go over it alot more "carefully"
Raise it up, give it a good degrease, be nice and hope for the best with the rest of car. P.S respect for slamming it that hard :D |
