Preferably an 08+ hatch, R/RX/RS

There is one for sale on Antilag.com, an 06 Impreza R.. its $16k though so it may or may not suit your budget.

pref something a little newer for $16k, or at least an rx/rs for something that old (and out of warranty)

km's not important, just needs to have been maintained.

my younger sister is looking for replacement impreza, she's had a GF8 98'RX for the last 4 years, she's looking to move on finally

i've done my fair share of conversions the last few years and i've still got a project under lock and key which will see the light of day soon enough...
