Default Wanted, I think: el cheapo removable bike rack

My car has a towball and a proper bike rack hanging off it, but sometimes it would be useful to be able to stick a bike on the wife's car (MY99 hatch).

So, I've seen a few cheapo bike racks which strap onto hatchback tailgates and I wondered whether anyone's tried one. Do they work properly? Likely to damage the car?

These things are only $40 or $50 on ebay so I'm not too fussed about finding one secondhand, but if anyone has one they don't use any more shoot me a PM and let me know what you have. If you've tried one and it was a disaster I'd be happy to hear from you too ;-)

The straps can rub on the paint. Better off with roof rack.

Okay, thanks. I thought they sounded a bit too good to be true.

Her car does have a roofrack so I guess I could find some mountings and put the bike there instead.

Pretty sure Seagull has a cheap tow bar for sale, might be the easiest way to go.
