But then you would have to change the intercooler too, correct?

Don't have to change it. It's just not as efficient with a smaller wrx cooler.

If you change turbos you will need a tune which will be ~$1k odd.

Keep your eye out on the FS stuff here and Rexnet dude. VF series regularly come up as people upgrade, if this is the sort of thing you're into.

But remember, (its not always the case), that cheap/cheapest/sub 500 dorrah in this instance... could mean 'shagged'.

It might be better off saving a tad longer, then grabbing a new snail, or at least a 'minimal kilometre' one... if that makes sense. (Unless you know the full history of the turbo/car).

Brent.

I have a GTPS02 ( very similar to VF34 ) with ~ 30,000km on it.

$800. It's off the car and ready to go.

Correction. Turbos blow. N/A's suck.
If on a tight budget a replacement TD04 will get you out of trouble very cheap.
Only upgrade if you are ready to spend some more money IMO.

i've not seen a TD04 for under $100 and in good work condition, ie seals not knackered, compressor wheel not shagged
have seen crackpipe prices of $400
