Wanted to Swap MY11 Bootlid (STI or Impreza)
Long shot, but let's see how we go...
I have a 2011 Pearl White WRX Sedan with spoiler to swap with 1.) 2011/12 Pearl White Impreza Sedan with no spoiler or spoiler holes in the bootlid. Direct swap 2.) 2011/12 Pearl White WRX STI Sedan with high spoiler that doesn't want the high spoiler and would rather the WRX spoiler instead. We would also need to take our your parcel shelf brake light. Long shot I know, but I can compensate you with a couple of hundred dollars as well to sweeten the deal. If you are interested in either, please let me know. PM me if interested |
Just get your spoiler painted and fitted and call it even?
|
$750 - $900 quotes so far
|
Jeez thats.. a bit.
|
Jeez thats.. a bit.
Sure is :D Kym, can you elaborate on who you have approached for quotes? Don't need the quoted prices though. |

Welcome to the wonderful world of pearl paints. |
1.) 2011/12 Pearl White Impreza Sedan with no spoiler or spoiler holes in the bootlid. Direct swap
You should be able to get this done for sure. Even a caryard with 2nd hand imprezza might be interested as long as you do the work? |
Kustoms and Melthams so far... bit reluctant to waste my time and go anywhere else.. I know the reason it costs so much... Melthams even quoted trade price to buy a bootlid for me, as it would probably be easier... which I agree, it would be.
The WRX spoiler has 14 holes in it, all across the bootlid, from drivers side to passenger side. Most places are reluctant to weld and bog the bootlid up as that many holes across the whole lid will warp it. The STI spoiler also uses 14 holes, but in a completely different pattern, and obviously, not across the bootlid (especially the middle, obviously) |
Fuck that! So whats the plan? Get a hole-less boot lid and then get the spoiler fitted??
Surely there is someone out there who would do a straight swap for you, private or caryard 14 holes is a bit bloody excessive Subaru! |
Long shot but tried wreckers?
|
haven't had a chance to ring around... doubt there would be too many MY11 wrx sedan's wrecked (white or otherwise)
Might try Tony's now |
Speak to a few yard as well? or have you taken badges etc off it therefore they probably won't want it?
|
Fuck that! So whats the plan? Get a hole-less boot lid and then get the spoiler fitted??
This is what I did when I removed the spoiler, from memory is was just over $400 for the boot, minus the rear trim (just re-use the one on you're car and get it painted to match :D) that sits above the license plate. Factor in a few hundred for prep and spraying of the STI spoiler and installation and you're getting close to the original quotes Kym. If you don't plan on driving the car as much I as do, maybe look at plugging up the holes in the boot crazy clarkes style? |

Sure does! Especially when you have some thing else lined up :D |
how long has it taken now to line something else up ?
|
Didn't take long actually, just had to wait a while for the item I was chasing after to become available, last I heard its on its way.
Hoping to get it installed as soon as possible :D |
Ive have bought and sold another 3 daks before you guys get shit done.
|
haha trust me, I want this spoiler on.. but I can't justify to myself (and the minister of finance and recreation) why I should spend $900 doing it. $500 maybe at a stretch...
|
Yeah. Damned if you do, damned if you dont.
Blame subaru and their 14 hole trick. |

Get receipt stating $500 for the works and leave the other few hundred off and pay in cash :D |
I still have to justify it to myself Tony
|
Just paint it black, buy cans from Autopro or the like. Would be something different!!
|
that doesn't solve the problem of putting it on the car does it Gav? I can carbon wrap it if I really wanted to. I have a sheet of it, and I know Gav would do a great job... thought about getting the boot carbon wrapped too, so it wouldn't require repainting, but then I'd have to wrap the bonnet too, and it would all cost more than painting the bootlid in the first place!
|
Lots and lots and LOTS of sikaflex :p
Have you checked how many holes line up with the new spoiler? It may work if you want to get it done on the cheap, yes I know its dodgy. |
Have you checked how many holes line up with the new spoiler?
I'll have to dig up my photos, but I know the middle 8 holes don't. Pretty sure that only two of the stock holes line up (one on each side). Proof :D |
Carbon wrap bootlid and spoiler? Holes covered and no need to paint! :p
|
Doing bootlid and spoiler is probably around 500 bucks. Then the roof will need doing so it doesnt look homus.
And bonnet 1k later... |
Should've just bought an STI Kymberly. :p
