Default Memories

What are some of your best ancedotes/memories from the WRC?

I remember at the Donnybrook regroup one year sitting at a bench table just taking in the atmosphere and Juha Kankkunen came over and sat down with me eating an apple and we just had a chat like we were good friends.

Also remember the days when the servicing was carried out by the roadside along the transport sections. That was brilliant.

Another great memory was being at the start point of the Helena South stage and chatting to Colin as he was waiting for his turn to queue up for the stage start the year he came with Skoda. Marcus and Petter were also there and I got to chat to them as well.

So many great memories...

I was there the last time they used the stages at Muresk. Colin bent his radiator after a botched landing at the cattle grid. Oh good times!!!

I was there for that as well. Muresk was such a great stage, although it was a bloody long walk up that hill!

Thats a little freaky... I was there as well. I was about 20 meters I suppose from where he came to a stop. That was my second ever rally, and the first time I had visited the Bunnings stages. I had never seen such a huge accident before that. I remember being amazed that they were no serious injuries from it ( I was only 11 at the time though)

I remember mum taking me to the rally in the bush one year and there was a lada with the roadside servicing and they needed to change something underneath so they just tipped the thing on its side.

Also remember the colin mcrae and the cattle grid. I was in the service park when he got back and by christ he was going ape shit.

I think one of the best though was sainz crashing and ripping a wheel of and then charging down gt eastern hwy towards mundaring service with sparks and all sorts of shit. Police trying to stop him. Arrives and walks straight over to the medical tent so Mr Plod did nothing and then watching all the ford mechanics walk over to the car and then back to the tent and getting more and more parts out to fix the thing. They got it back on the road and the amount of work they did was awesome.

Still got the pics when Colin arrived into service at Langley park in the Skoda and I think was leading the event but had some gbox or electrical fault and ran out of time. The look on his face and team was gutt wrenching to say the least. His family was there and the crowd which had gathered showing there support were also gutted and a round of applause went up for a heroic effort. Mechanics and managers from other teams came to the tent to lend support as best they could. You dont get that in F1 or the same access unless your a supermodel or soccer player. RIP Colin

Rally NZ when Carlos vaporised a sheep. The incar footage shows a sheep walking onto the track and him charging in at full pelt then you just see a mist of blood and no more sheep!

Cant remember the driver or team but car barrelling down the track at speed and gets out of shape then footage flicks to incar and whilst the car is rolling over (twice) the driver is changing gearbox cogs back to 1st for when he lands. (sequential on the floor) fkun amazing!
