End of the day, I drive to the conditions... If it's wet and I stomp on it a little, I want it to get a little slippery, thats the reason why I do it.
I don't follow people too closely and I don't intend on starting to now. If I'm in an emergency situation, ie: a kid runs out of the driveway, I'll be doing 50km anyway (being a residential street) and I will attempt to stop the car in time, regardless of what tyres are on there. IMO, there isn't that much difference. If I end up with the car wrapped around a pole, then obviously I was driving like a twat, and I probably deserved it.

90% of the cheap stuff is made under license or by the bigger manufacturers anyhow - often for their cheaper markets.
They fear brand image damage by selling cheap so just use this as a method to sell their tyres.

Thats exactly right. People drive around on their $300 /tyre thinking they have "soo much grip" blah blah. Its called justification of expence. Need to tell themselves how good the more expensive product is. Placebo.

I am 99% sure that Marhsal are Kuhmo tyres anyhow - just using one generation old tech.
So the latest greatest gets sold by Kuhmo at 400 a corner Marshals latest is the old Kuhmo at 150 a corner.
