The slowest pig in Perth

So far lots of fun. Trip to Adelaide. Separate trip to Tassie ( That is well worth doing!!! ) & 59,000 km on the clock. Soon to be doing a few hill climbs and a no limits night or two when it cools down a bit.

Touch wood. No reliability problems at all. So far car has been bullet proof. Bet I just put the mokka on myself now!!! Still even on the original clutch which just astounds me with 70 odd passes at the plex and a best 60 foot of 1.655.

corbzrex 30-01-2009 02:01 PM

i like those mud flaps

very nice vehicle

RUSSGT 30-01-2009 02:03 PM

Nice! Should have put this in Your Driveway section though.

PRODIGY 30-01-2009 02:37 PM

Nice mate, I'd be happy with the 'slowest pig in Perth' :)

About time you upgraded your tmic though isn't it with those mods, then i can buy yours.. ;)

No. I like the fact that without crawling on the ground under the car there is nothing obviously not stock with it. Except for the exhaust which is still fairly quiet and what Impreza doesn't have an exhaust!!!

Luigi 30-01-2009 03:22 PM

Nice Clean looking black Piggy.

Mud flaps FTW extra I'm sure you get an extra 5HP per mud flap.

RichX 30-01-2009 03:47 PM

Loose flaps // good but bad ;)

phizzle 30-01-2009 03:56 PM

Hey Matt, good to see she's still going strong. And it's looking good too :)

Old pic but gave it a polish up today so all looking good again ( spend the next week getting all the bits I missed rubbing off    ).

Lease has run out but decided to keep it for another 3 or 4 years hence the new toys :D :D :D

Would like something new but the big question is what do you go to. Anything the sane side of 100 Large will be a lot slower, Have all the electrical "Toys" I want in it and love the way it drives.

Anything else would be a disappointment after it.

Rexxar 30-01-2009 05:23 PM

Nice car mate and where about you get the mud flap

200kw atw and ran a 12.3 on the 6spd. Wow thats awesome.

Nice car man, very clean example of a Pig Sti.

I suspect it is actually putting down a little more but the last time it was on the dyno Lane still had it above ground and the fan on the floor so absolutely zero airflow to the top mount. I believe the Dyno is now recessed into the ground which would help a bit.

Can't be bothered wasting money on finding out on another dyno. Goes well enough as is.

Think the 06's had slightly higher ratios cos I can get over the line at 180 Kp/h and not hit the limiter in 4th. Is past redline though but only just. Shifting to 5th screws you.

Nice mods..

yeah the longer ratios help out heaps as well as the DCCD, im going that way to help my times also...

I found that the best way to run the DCCD was manual full rear ( mines the 41:59 split I think ). With the RE 070's I just ended up with the rear wheels bouncing unless I could get them to spin a little.

Think the Subframe Lockdown should help that a bit ( and no bang shifting gears helps the enthusiasum level ). Not sure if the ALK is a bonus or a hinderance down the strip though. Should be better front end grip but less weight transfer. Have to learn all over again :D :D :D

Zombee 01-02-2009 09:11 PM

Black Pig STi's FTW!!

Looks great mate! I'm one of the few original pig STi owners too. I've been following your mod path and have chatted to Lane about the next step. When this damn economy crap blows over my Pig is going in for the 'next stage'

Looks great mate!!

Cheers
Zombee:)

MKVIGTI 05-03-2009 06:54 AM

These arrived yesterday :D :D :D

Sorry Mrs didn't take the plastic off before taking a pic to send to me.

Still have an up pipe, crank pulley, radiator shroud & shifter bushings coming. Separate parcels cos screw doing the customs paperwork. That looks like a right royal pain in the ass.

Get v5 STi's Group 4's off him on Wed to go in Friday. The turbo and dump pipe come out on the 16th to get ceramic coated with the Headers and up pipe.

Should be all back together for Whoop ass on the 1st ( only need to find .35 of a second to be happy ) and then Jack's Hill climb on the 27th :D :D :D

MKVIGTI 11-03-2009 04:08 PM

First page updated with the toys that are going in over the next couple of weeks. Just waiting on the Ceramic coaters before the good bits can go in. Headers are absolute Porn.

Hope to have results with a slip from the plex with an 11 something on it to post up early april. Fingers Crossed!!!

Now just have to stop spending money on it and start enjoying it. Bring on Jacks hill on the 27th April!!!

American Dave 11-03-2009 04:12 PM

great work and yes you must be the only original black pig who is still running original stock clutch!! Look forward to hearing results once you get the new mods on her.

I doubt for long but was talking to the Race Torque boys and apparently they are suggesting going stock for replacement as they are having better results than aftermarket or refinished ones.

Don't ride it or launch hard on the street which probably helps it a bit.

Guess we will see what they can really handle.

waxdass 11-03-2009 05:18 PM

you will love the headers.... might be a bit hard to get used to the new sound tho!

good work. let me know if there is a diameter difference between the stock Sti up-pipe and the perrin one.

I used the stocker.

Already have an up pipe in it from Race Torque but was just going to Ceramic coat the Headers and up pipe so got the Perrin one to make it a drive in drive out deal. After I ordered it the Ceramic coater convinced me that it was a waste of time if I didn't do the turbo as well so the up pipe was probably a waste of time. Be interesting to see the difference between the stock, Race Torque and Perrin ones. Suspect both non stock ones will be nearly identical.

Either way will have a spare up pipe if anyone is chasing one from April.

I found it documented on Nasioc, the stock vs perrin diameters were the same. Hence why I didnt bother buying one with the headers - (possibly the only difference being the perrin doesnt use a venturi)

But keen to see 'first hand' information!

I might be interested, if they are not ;)

MKVIGTI 12-03-2009 07:36 AM

Dam I hate ordering stuff. Just got an e-mail this morning saying my order has shipped today. Would have been nice to know they were waiting for something when they charged my card 3 weeks ago. Was hoping they would be at the post office yesterday!!!

Oh well be late April before I get results up now and I can leave the Headers on the coffee table for 3 weeks admiring them :D :D :D

At least the Group 4's go in today :D :D :D

the stock clutch in my 06 pig held up beautifully with lots of hard track work (300+ laps, sometimes around 20 in a row flat out) you just gotta know how to treat them. mind you my engine was near stock, but still...

and gee, you're hooking into that perrin catalogue too. keep it coming :icon_thum

Yea buying those sway bars off you was about the worst financial decision I ever made :D :D :D

Enjoying driving the car so much more though. Cant wait to pick it up with the Group 4's in this arvo

phizzle 12-03-2009 09:52 AM

Matt, you in Perth around lunch? Come to Hyde Park Hotel about 12:30 if you are!

Car is coming along well buddy. Should be a go kart after the Grp 4's this arvo!!!!!

MKVIGTI 12-03-2009 09:59 AM

I might pass phizzle. Will end up not being able to pick up the car ( Was it CC's the old add " Can never just have 1 " ):D :D :D

MKVIGTI 12-03-2009 06:18 PM

Group 4's freakin rock!!!

John (Wheels World ) suggested 8 clicks on the front and 6 on the rear for round town comfortable ride and start of with a couple of clicks more for play days. Does that sound about right for those that are running them.

MKVIGTI 01-04-2009 11:08 PM

Quick update. Just finished putting the Shifter Bushings in and give them a big  ( Oh for a home hoist and a few more inches of working space under the car )

Put the Lightened crank pulley on this morning. I think it does rev out a little better but wouldn't hand on heart say I can feel the difference. Might be the last 1/2 tenth though. Dam the stock one is heavy!!!

Turbo and dump come out Monday to go to CIC so have to wait till the 21st for it to all go back together and get tuned before I can give numbers from the headers :BangHead:

kbomb 16-04-2009 10:18 AM

Bought some bling this morning :D :D :D

Top secret till it goes on and get pics. No dobbin me in type25!!!

Headers and everything ceramic coated going on the car as we speak BUT Lanes laptop has shit the tin so he isn't going to be able to tune it by Tuesday when I was hoping to get it.

Stupid question I know but will Equal length headers cause the thing to lean out under normal driving ( My bet would be leaner ) or would it run richer so would be safe to potter around in until he is able to tune it.

Headers shouldn't cause it to lean out. The ECU measures the air entering the engine through the MAF sensor and adds the appropriate amount of fuel(verified with oxygen sensor in headers when in closed loop control) to achieve a target air fuel ratio specified in your fuel map.

Cool story. Google told you that?

jungleboy 16-04-2009 03:58 PM
Cool story. Google told you that?
Nah, I've been looking at the various tables on my 06 sti with rom raider and the fuel map is just a table of target air fuel ratios rather than IDCs.

MKVIGTI 16-04-2009 04:06 PM

I got smart and they are going to put the now nicely ceramic coated dump pipe and turbo housing back in with the old up pipe and factory headers until Lane is able to tune it. Frustrating but at least I won't have to worry about popping it.

I know it will cop a squirt at least once no matter how good I try to be.

What Jungleboy says makes sense BUT it could be a very expensive exercise if he's not right.

MKVIGTI 22-04-2009 11:13 AM

I now have in my possession a Prodrive Grille Kit as fitted to the RB320's and a Pre-Painted polyurethane front lip ( With the Stinless Steel STi badge ). Can't believe it took so long for mum to convert me to ebay.

Now just to get the car back from Lane when he finishes the tune so I can fit them :D :D :D

Big question now. Do I really bite the bullet and rip the STi stickers off the fog light covers or leave them there???

MKVIGTI 22-04-2009 07:13 PM

Got the car back from Race Torque this arvo. Lane didn't have time to tune it and looks like he will be flat out for the next few weeks so he checked it and it is running rich but nice and safe so I thought screw it I'll have it back and tune it when he is free. At this stage 24th of June :( :( :(

Bear in mind it hasn't been tuned for the new headers and up-pipe it pulled 211.6kw atw @ 5300rpm & 407.9nm @ 4300rpm( derived torque ) in 4th gear. Motive force of 6345N if that means anything to any of you as well. Was 200kw last time it was tuned but never got any dyno sheets to compare. Will post up graphs after it is tuned but hoping for 220+

Feels heaps quicker. Don't think I like the sound pulling away from the lights but cruising and on song I love it :D :D :D

Under bonnet temps have dropped dramatically with the ceramic coating which I am pleasantly surprised by considering all the heat shielding has now been removed.

Bling going on tomorrow and then get some pics up when I get around to washing it.

phizzle 23-04-2009 08:48 AM

Nice one Matt. More powerful digger, more powerful car, your just a power monger :p Can't wait to see what she looks like with some rice and bling.
