Default MY05 Silver WRX - New to the scene

Hi All,

OK, so Im new to the scene as far as posting on the site (existing ride owned for 18 months), but I have been learning a hell of a lot from the great info you all have to offer, so thanks for that. I drive an MY05 Silver WRX, only mods being a 3" SS cat back exhaust and King Springs fitted by Maximum Motorsport Malaga. As my car is relatively economical and is my daily drive, if I were to save my pennies and invest in further mods (i.e. ECU), would the fuel economy I currently have differ dramatically? Any advice would be great.

Cheers

Hey mate.

Depending on the tune it's not uncommon to have better fuel economy than you currently have. Most of the time it depends how heavy your right foot is. Every car is different.

Sounds like you've been doing a bit of searching around, so you'd probably know that if you were to retune your ECU (Maximum Motorsport = ECUTek), you'd want to finish off your exhaust to a full Turbo back system first.

There is a thread on here which shows all the recommended workshops in Perth who can do this for you. While Maximum's are alright, they can be pricey. Recommend a Verso retune for $990 at All Star.

Alternativley you can go Autronics or motec which are also expensive but money is very well spent. The only thing that has me about verso is, whilst its a solid reflash (kudos Pete :P) that if one day something does happen to Sean, Nic and Pete (hopfully not though haha), where does that leave everyone with the tune?

My fuel economy from having a PowerFC put in stayed about the same. 450-470kms per tank after mild mods. Like RichX said, the foot makes the difference

There are heaps of things avaliable, just do your research and ask questions, and you should be fine. Welcome to the forums and enjoy your stay.

Don't be a hater Eric! I know what you're saying but. I figure at the end of the day, it's still an remapped OEM ECU, which is unlocked (unlike ECUTek) So if ASG did disappear from the face of the earth, there is nothing stopping any other tuner tapping in and sorting it out if a problem came up.

They'd just have to figure out Pete's mad skillz.

Aint hating just saying i think its a little more involved then just tapping into the ecu and sorting parameters like A/F ratios etc out. Anywayz, i digress if you are unsure as to mods, i suggest some nice coilovers/lowering springs, shocks, light forged rims, rear and front sway bars and a few strut braces. Then go to AHG and have fun, fun, fun!

I still maintained 500+kms per tank with 816cc injectors and a host of other stupid mods when running Verso in a MY05 WRX.

Motec had motec fuel economy (still 400 odd plus per tank).
