I have a spare here for you Jeremy if you need it.

Try cleaning it with CO contact cleaner first.
Cheers Rossco, but I'm going to use my brother's for a while, as his wrx wont be on the road for a while

I'm thinking about picking one up 2nd hand to use as a spare, then cleaning them both with contact cleaner whenever they start getting dodgey. The mesh in the intake just before the AFM was pretty filthy, so it could suggest that my K&N needs a clean and a light oil. The air flow sensor element didnt look too dirty, it just had a small patch of black...

Slight problem... the screws to take out the sensor element are pretty unusual, not sure if this is a specialised tool or if I could find one at supercheap?

Input?

They're called tamper proof Torx bolts.

Try Repco or tool mart.

Bunnings also used to do a kit of these for under $10 which was pretty decent...

Strubaru 19-08-2009 08:10 AM

jaycar do a set with about 50 tamperproof bits in it for around the same money

just got a set from Repco this morning, 22 bucks.

Update.

Have booked in at Wilkinsons; will be getting a wheel alignment and a bit of gear fitted (ALK, camber bolts, roll centre kit)

Currently the car is with Tim Slako at West Racing, getting the Unichip tuned. Before the tune, the car was hesitating/spluttering a bit on full boost (esp in this cold weather), and boost was fluctuating.
As it was an intermittant problem, Tim has the car for the next few days, just to make sure it gets sorted.
Will post up dyno sheet and results once its finished! I'm already missing it, can't wait to get my car back!

After these mods I think I'll start looking into doing an engine build - get the base down pat before going down the turbo/intercooler/gbox/expensive ecu route. The news about Regent's 207 short blocks wasnt good - but I'm gonna shop around to find the best price.

 Does anyone know of any places over here that do pre-built, new 207s? I know there are a couple of mobs over east that sell fresh 207s etc with stroker kits etc pre fitted...

Another update.
Car is back from Tim Slako, and it runs much better. Turns out my hesitation etc was being caused by shitty spark plugs! They were still mostly intact, but at full boost they couldnt ignite properly, causing the hesitation. Boost has been changed to 16psi, clutch actually slipped every time he tried 18....Very happy with what he's done with the car, great service, and good price. Still waiting to do a proper power run after my clutch is fixed :)

Got the car booked in at Tenagah next week, taking advantage of their September supply & fit special for Exedy clutches.

Installed my shifter bushings over the wkend.... let me say, the front ones are a piece of piss to install... but the back ones shouldnt be attempted unless you are patient and have ring pliers! Shifting is pretty much as tight as it gets now, and I can 'feel' the gbox alot more. Will be needing a new leather shifter boot now, I'm thinking of going through this mob http://www.redlinegoods.com/shiftboot.htm

Wheel alignment etc is today, should see some results :)

Nice Jezza...

So did he tune the unichip at all??
Nice Jezza...

yeh he did... he's raised the boost (only a fraction) to 16/17psi rather than the 14/15psi it was on before...
and he said there were a couple of lean spots he ironed out.

no power run yet as he does most of the tuning on-road, after loading an appropriate base map :p

Tim also doesn't have a AWD dyno...
