Thought I would put an in car video up of last months Rally Sprint. Again, apologies about the shit quality & the sound with the rattle, turn down the sound if you have too
[YT]rc4fr5oO8Do&context[/YT] |
Car has had a few more mods this week, the main ones being
Front mount 3" TBE Cat less up pipe 440cc injectors Profec B 1 boost controller Power FC Car just came off the dyno with 245 hp & 307 nm of torque. I'll post the dyno chart up in a bit. Hopefully we will get some quicker times in the rally sprint tonight, compared to last round, even though the course is the opposite way this round. |
What is the rattle?
|
Nice. What turbo? If its small enough that should be plenty responsive.
|

It's just the absolute awesomeness of the car. Doesn't your car do it Andrew? :p It's just the go pro rattling in its case. I will try to fix it when I records tonight's activities.
Nice. What turbo? If its small enough that should be plenty responsive.
TD05 16G TJ, its running 1 bar of boost, which is safe I think. It's a little laggy, but it really gets moving above 4300 rpm. |
Got a dyno plot?
|
Like!
|
keen to see tonight!
|
Yeah I do Russ but I am only foruming on my phone at the moment. I'll post it up tonight.
|
not bad for only 14.5psi

Fixed that gear stick yet??? =) |
Well how'd it go tonight? I unfortunately couldn't make it!
|
Not too bad Kaiden. We had a small coolant leak from changing the manifold over, but it was ok. 1 hour tomorrow & it will be all sorted. Still getting use to the Project MU pads, as they seem to love locking up the fronts  But they got better through the night & I changed my breaking technique a little to try to help.
The car was also overboosting pretty bad for the first 3 runs until I worked out the boost controller setting to suit. The last run definitely felt like the best one, but I will have to wait til the times to come out to confirm that. The car pulls so much harder now, but as mentioned above I did not really have too much confidence in the brakes, which would have slowed the overall time down a little The last time I saw was a 2:41:00, which is over 2 seconds quicker than last round, but the track was the opposite direction this time, so not too sure how much of an indication that is. Next round will be a true comparison when its the same direction as the January round. |
Few minor teething issues, which will be easy enough to sort out, but overall went quite well.
They had a bit of a hiccup with the timing equipment so until the times are posted it's hard to tell for certain. We think we were around the 2:41:xx mark, which was an improvement on last round. |
Car needs bigger stickers.
Stickers = horsepower remember! :D |
Guys can I ask - have you (or last owner) done anything to the engine? Because I think yours and mine would have been similar, but mines only doing 178HP. Is the TD05 and the boost controller whats pushing it up to 250ish?

What turbo do you have? Yeah the TD05 will be the reason, but I am assuming you have a TDO4. Also the front mount will give it another 20 - 30hp going from previous information I have been given. We have done nothing to the engine internals, just a full exhaust, catless up pipe, FMIC, 440cc injectors, Power FC ECU, pod filter, external boost controller...... Basic stuff |

TD04 to TD05 is a decent power hike. TD05 is also 'laggier' compared to TD04. So there are pro's and con's to both. |
Get some sways and brakes sorted cam :-) then shedloads of seat time.
I personally think pushing more power out of an already tired engine is bad news. Get the above sorted and youll be in business. |
Yep.

Correct me if I'm wrong...but how does a front mount add 20 - 30 hp? I thought it doesn't add any hp? |
Bigger intercooler than standard = more cooler air flow = more power
In a nutshell - cooler intake air is more oxygenated than warm air, the more oxygen you have the more fuel you can burn, more fuel you can burn means more power from engine. |

As Darren has already pointed out is the reason. People have commented that it ads extra "lag" or "throttle response" or whatever you want to call it, but to be honest, both myself & Darren have not noticed any extra time difference getting the car onto boost with the FMIC over the slanty style TMIC. Maybe the slanty type was more restrictive? I'm not sure. Unfortunately I do not have back to back dyno runs to compare, but Johns dyno charts in the linked below thread tell the story quite well. yeah, but i want to hear the car & what its doing :) |
I will post it again without the "gay" music but the GoPros do not have the best sound quality outside the car mate.
|
My appologies, if the camera cant pick up any dakdak music then yours will have to do!
