Betty Blue

G'day all,
Thought I would chuck up a build thread seeing as the mod bug has had me busy this year. I've owned my Betty'10 for just over two years and until January hadn't done much with it except drive and enjoy. I did a couple of track days last year and the inevitable mod/race bug bit me. This year I've managed to complete a couple of sprint series events, jacks hill climb, a tuning day and this Sunday at Mc's will probably be my last event for the year. Second bub is due in December so no doubt I will be busy changing more shit stained nappies for a while... Mod list isn't too extensive but so far happy with them all as the car is slowly becoming more track focused. Thanks to those members who I have spoken to for your advice and experiences. Nice mate, Good selection of mods too.
Have you been playing with the KW settings much yet? Mod suggestions to help with the bug: bushings, swaybars, light wheels, .... |
Love this car! Well done mate!
|
Good stuff, those extinguisher brackets are well made!

Cheers Russ. Are you buying a Lotus?
Nice mate, Good selection of mods too. Have you been playing with the KW settings much yet? Mod suggestions to help with the bug: bushings, swaybars, light wheels, ....
Hey Andy, Last sprint round I stiffened it up but then it pissed down with rain so sideways was the only ways for the rest of the day. Looks like this Sunday will bucket down again so I will stay on the factory preset as the car is very composed there. Could definitely feel the difference with adjustments but no chance to really test. Sunday will be a laugh with another 35hp to play with in the rain... You end up getting the KW's for your piggy? |
nice ride man! good to see it getting used too :

I did get something very similar but better :D Still waiting on some parts so I can install them though. |
G'day,
I thought it was time for an update. I have added some new pics and some detail to the first page. Yes I know I am anal... I am aiming to complete the eight rounds of the RAC sprint series this year, so far so good, four down and four to go. Thanks to the addition of some lighter track rims, hankook semi-slicks, k-mac strut tops (for that mexican stance) and light weight battery my betty's handling and performance at the track has improved in leaps and bounds. Last race I finally got to test my new pagid rs29 pads(front) and elf race fluid and was amazed at the improvement in braking performance. I have ordered a harness bar from AGI Industries. When that arrives I will purchase a six point harness to go with it. Link for the bar - http://www.google.com.au/url?url=http://www.agi-precision.com.au/automotive/safety-harness-bar/&rct=j&frm=1&q=&esrc=s&sa=U&ei=_yG2U-OuN8mslAWQsICYBg&ved=0CBQQFjAA&usg=AFQjCNEd24-lRdjqsZO1Sx77CtQ7tFpB5g I am having it made without the eyebolt mounts so it was a tad cheaper. Hopefully it wont affect the handling of the car too much with it being attached to the rear strut mounts. The rear floor of the betty is pretty flat so I'm not expecting much change. Time will tell. RussGt is making me a custom front drivers side extinguisher mount in anticipation of the doing some McRae sprint rounds later in the year/new year. I'm looking forward to tackling more complex events but I want to complete a full RAC series first. It is a very safe venue to learn to push your limits. As I gaze into my crystal balls I am seeing e85 in the near future but need Mindarie United to get it on as Padbury is just too far to justify the swap. Looking forward to meeting more of you at the races getting sideways hopefully! Cheers. |
Good work on the harness and bar investment. I am thinking I want the same thing. Just invest in a 20 ltr jerry can for home e85 storage and you are laughing. Trust me its the best bang for buck mod you will ever make with you car and you will be doing your bit to save the environment too.
|
Got the jerry already for the track as I run very light on race day. Hmmm...
|
Better get Burke to put you a trophy cabinet together
|
I didn't realise they gave out trophies for 20th.

Simon got a participation award once.

Okey dokey, so I recieved the harness bar from AGI.
I trimmed away at the interior plastics around the rear strut mounts until there was enough room to do the deed. Then what do you know, the bar doesn't fit. As you can see from the pictures the bar comes into contact with the chassis on the drivers side and will not move any further to allow alignment of the suspension bolts and bar mounting holes. The strut bolts are 10mm so i'm guesstimating the rogue bolt sits about 4mm closer to the chassis than the other three bolts. The suggestion from Adam at AGI was to panel beat that section of the chassis to fit the bar. I just can't do it. Russ offered to do it for me and so did one of the fitters at work but I'm too pussy. Lucky for me Adam at AGI admitted this has happened on one other car in the past, out of about 15 bar installs. He has also agreed to give me a full refund, so I can't fault him there. Pretty disappointing but what can you do, shit happens. If anyone is interested in the bar and wants a test fit and possible purchase let me know by Friday this week. Otherwise I will be re-packaging it and sending it back. Cheers For sale thread. http://www.perth-wrx.com/vb/sale/58951-agi-harness-bar-brand.html |

R u gonna ordered the Arai motorsport one? U r welcome to come to have a look if in doubt.
|
Friking hell the whole seat is bent? Never seen that before!
|
The crash sucks. It could have been worse. Get the car fixed properly. Just treat the cost of repair the same way you'd have to pay to get your engine re-built properly if you lunched it, etc.

Good news mate! |
Good news on not needing a new dash board and sundry.
It's not as bad as I thought. |
Sorry to c that, such a shame. Hopefully it gets repaired quickly and properly.

wow... I'm assuming crash at RAC?

What is the value of an MY08 STI these days ?
|
how different is the body shell compared to just a plain jane impreza? if its not too different it might be worth buying one for ~$10k strip everything off it & sell to recoup some more $ then bolt all your stuff into the stripped shell, just ban idea anyway

They r quite different. Maybe getting an aftermarket bumper and replacement upgraded parrs from japan better value for money? Just a thought. using the Perth-WRX mobile app |
When Beerens (I think it was beerens) rolled his 08 at targa, he found most panels made in carbon for cheaper than standard stuff. Saved a heap of weight and looks good. You can see it at Maximums.
Also contact bigo for a quote at Melthams? |

2010 sti widebody? Not a straight forward re-shell?
|
swapping a car into another is about a 2 weekend job... happy to help where i can
|
PM me your VIN number.
|
Also happy to assist if you go down this route.. I'd look over east for write off as opposed to WA, cracks expensive here...
Pay me in rear brembos..... ;-) |
Wow, that's a decent effort. Look forward to seeing how you get it fixed.
|
PM me your VIN number.
Mind me asking why first? Der, it's parts and prices right? Sorry I am suspicious by nature Marc. |
Not a problem; I need your VIN number so that when I call up the parts interpreter they can see your make and model when discussing the cost of parts.
This way there is no confusion, hopefully. First things first you need to figure out which route you're going to go down and go from there. I'm personally not a fan of the re-shell route as you're going to be left with a car that's worth significantly less in value and it would just annoy me. Has anyone giving you a written quote yet? |
Based on a discussion that was had on here a while back about wreckers charging 60% over retail price I have to say A-part is virtually bang on (Plus. GST).
Sourcing the quarter panel new alone is going to take you over the $1,100 mark and is ex-Japan. I think Soksta was sourcing parts from a US dealership a while back and stated material price differences; Perhaps get their details? Please note I am not aware if there are differences between the AU/US models. |

Nick you need to get this guy a case/bottle of top shelf something as they have really looked after you.
I understand where you're coming from in saving money but to get new prices as those stated I'd wait/save that little bit longer as it is totally worth it, especially when it comes to items such as airbags/safety systems. Just check if this guy has: - Quoted you ex-GST - Isn't registered for GST. I can safely say there's only a very, very slim chance you'll get those parts new, cheaper within Australia. |
You're welcome.
