The metal shims help to protect the piston, although they do create noise when they vibrate under pressure. The PMu backing parts help with squeal, dust and temperature getting to the piston / dust boots.

Use both, they have slightly different and complementary functions. Most importantly never listen to someone who associated himself with the chairman.
Good to know. I thought u don't need them since mine never made any noise even w/o any shims, but I did put the directional shim back on just in case.

I meant with ebc u can have high and low boost settings for different occasions, and u can control boost spike to u own advantages.
Chairman? Lol.

Maybe luxury was the wrong word for it, but not everyone has the garage space, tools and knowledgeable friends or time to work on there own car.

Cheers for the info about the shims - ordered expensive silly bits of metal from pMU some for my HC's now.

Does it take time for the noise to start if their is going to be any? Did the pad/rotor bed in and they didnt make a single noise out o the normal. Stunk the car out though haha.

Think it varies, but from my experience usually after bedded in, and at lower speeds and/or when braking and they aren't at operating temperature. Handful of variables at play as to whether and how bad the squeal can be.

Given the type of pad I am keen to mitigate it as much as possible and $69 is a small price to pay for my sanity for the pMU shims.
