So time for a little update. Firstly I am over the cannon muffler, it just does not suit the Forester in my opinion. So time for some more pipes:

I am having a 2 bolt 3" flange welded to it plus a few hangers so it bolts straight up to the existing XFORCE exhaust without having to modify it. Not going to do any stupid blast pipe angle out / up, just straight out the bumper opening.

Also had another Tuning Session yesterday (36 - 38*c the whole time, had a nice sea breeze for parts) and the car held up a lot better then the last time. The heat shielding and Reflct-a-Tape did a great job protecting the intercooler, brake and clutch reservoir. I was able to get 4 - 5 hot laps before the TMIC heat soaked and the tyres started to go off. The brakes and clutch were strong the whole session.

I am going to give the car a rest until after April (can't afford to dok dok and get married) so the car will get some more improvements for when it hits the track next:
- 225/45R18 Bridgestone RE003 (or maybe RE-11). I was going to get AD08's but they don't offer the load rating that meet / exceed my requirements in that size.

- Inspect & change the plugs.
- Paint the intake manifold black.
- Somehow improve my TMIC efficiency. I am not going down the FMIC route so might look into a better TMIC (Process West or Hyperflow) if I can't get more efficiency out of the STI TMIC.
- Maybe get a touch-up tune (car was originally tuned back in 2011), or a retune if I change my inter cooling situation.

TL;DR - Car went great in the heat for 5 laps before the heatsoak of the TMIC was too much. I may look into fixing this but as there would not be many sessions as hot / hotter then this I could see this as a success... but why be complacent when you can go bigger and better

Thought of water spray'n the TMIC ? ...might help a lot.

I'd like to see a WAT IC that would work well in that situation...but in my experience they really don't work that well for track type stuff unless you have a massive radiator in the boot, WTA resists getting hot quick but once they are hot they run a higher ratio above ambient than a ATA and will not cool down very quick like a ATA.....big advantage with WTA comes when you use an ice reservoir or such

Go FMIC lol !

I have spoken to some fellow Subaru track hacks and they said I should be happy that I got 5 hot laps in that heat before it started to pull power. Like you suggested, they think I need to beef up my water spray system. I am starting to think that if the car ran that well in 37*c it should be able to handle the rest of the years just fine.

They also said the smart choice (without going FMIC) is to keep my existing TMIC, unless it has a large area of damaged fins then Process West or Hyperflow would give marginally better heat resistance and efficiency. The main advantage is that you can buy them new and not have to find one in reasonable condition.

The next step in cooler running would be E85 but without any servos near me it is not convenient.

Painting the intake manifold black may not be a good idea.

It may well cause it to absorb more of the engine bay heat.

Possibly, but high temp (and heat reflective) engine enamel coating is pretty good at reflective heat off coated items. The colour isn't decided but likely black, gunmetal or charcoal.

Your just wish your brakes were like mine and Jack's. They are an early warning system for pedestrians.
