In addition to what's been said, as is the case with living in Japan, if you live in NZ for 12 months or more, you can bring a car back with you.
AFAIK it would still need to meet all the SEVS bullshit. Also I think you may have to have owned it for a year too, but not confident on that one. It's no wonder some of their show cars over there piss on ours. They get imports for a song over there and all that money saved goes towards mods and rice.
