Yes they are old, our standard switch is now a 3560G - Got about 25 of these on site, Dual 4506's as a core, 3600 series router.

Could there have been any reason for the blown resistor? Was the switch working on a hot day? covered in dust or towel or clothing?

Not sure why it died, got an alert on a Saturday that it was offline. Went to where it was physically located (Comms cabinet with another switch) connected to a UPS point. Unsure of the reason for death.
Our IP Phones are all POE but there wasn't a significant amount of load going through it. This is the first Cisco PSU i have seen die.
No dust, no towels - Comms cab rack mounted.

Blown resistor is just visible down the back, hard to see. Will get a better one.
