Hey all... think this would be the right place to post...
Couple of days ago cruising at 80 in top gear, not under boost, my WRX (GC8, unmodded except for 3"
TBE & removed resonator) stopped firing for 3-4 seconds before returning to normal (with no backfire). Had no such incident before or since. Today, drove into town & back, no dramas. Went to start it up 2 hours later and it turns over nicely but wouldn't fire at all. Battery near new & heaps of spark in it. Running BP98. All this time there was no CEL.
Searched on forums & did diagnostic which returned a code 22 (knock sensor).
Question is, why won't the motor start despite the CEL code and at least give me limp mode? Have read on here in several places where cars still run even with a CEL code 22. It may sound like a silly question, but would a code 22 necessarily indicate a stuffed knock sensor under the circumstances above?
Also, according to search on here the knock sensor is on the LH side of block near starter motor & under manifold. Is it visible without taking half the left side of the motor off? I have the description, but does anyone actually have a pic of it
in situ?
Appreciate any help, cheers
