Have you been talking to that hysterical Ford Explorer guy who was going to die when his cruise wouldn't turn off?
Fact- The Brant cannot lock the steering.
Fact- The Brant cannot cause the brakes to disappear.
At worst, the steering would become heavier after the engine cut out, but would remin quite drivable still. And the brakes would be unassisted but still be just as effective with more pedal effort.
