Default Need some help!!- Headgasket/Engine

Hey guys, just got some pretty upsetting news about my 01 Bug-eye, turns out my head-gasket is screwed! But not entirely sure to what extent.

Mao from Evolution-R has had a good look at it and with the symptoms of:
Overheating (seems to be only when driving never at idle), Coolant seems to be disappearing, reservoir getting way overfull and staying that way when its hot or cold, bubbling in the reservoir tank, the heater only seems to work when I'm driving, goes cold at traffic lights. There was a bad radiator cap on it which he had already replaced but it still continued to overheat.(I think that's all) -Has come up with the problem being a blown head-gasket.

So not doubting his professional opinion or anything but Is there any possible way that it is HOPEFULLY something else less serious??

If however it is the head-gasket what would you guys recommend:
Either fixing it or just getting a new engine, I herd it's approx the same to do either or?

(If anyone is selling a cheap EJ205 motor let me know!! :P)
