You will be able to see quite a lot!

Use Google Sky to learn where abouts in the night sky objects of interest actually are.
There are also planetarium apps that allow you to use your Iphones G sensors and compass to show you exactly where things are.

You want to start by searching for Messier catalogue objects as they are the brightest and easiest to find - such as M42 The great Orion Nebula (which is at the top of the handle on the 'saucepan') which is a very bright magnitude 4.

My best M42 image

Messier object list is here: A Messier Image Gallery

You will need to learn to polar align your scope properly to make it simple for you to track any object you are looking at. make sure you look at SOUTHERN Polar alignment not the majority of how to's - which are for the northern Hemisphere.

P.s...... I have a new scope to try tonight! a 6" Astro-tech R/C Astrograph.
