I believe the idea of pod filters is the bigger surface area through the filters, therefore allowing more air to be sucked in, which in turns makes more power.

I only know that both K&N and AEM have released dyno graphs with their products on a stock WRX and it shows that there are gains to be had. Interpret as you will, but if you really want to change out your intake, I would change it to either of these brands.
