Can I clarify something here. Fatter/larger diameter speaker wire doesn't always equal better sound.
Unless the amp output is reasonably large and consistent then a fatter cable helps in lowering resistance making it easier for an amp to generate output without overheating. However, we are talking about a professional situation more than a home one.
Larger diameter speaker cabling introduces capacitance which causes high frequency roll off. That in a home situation is more likely to be apparent.
