Default Subaru Liberty GT – A Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing

The Subaru Liberty has always played the role of the more practical, more sensible and more refined big brother to the popular Impreza. And like the Impreza, the Liberty is also available with a fire-breathing turbocharged powerplant, making it the unassuming sleeper car with its smooth, refined body shape. Only the presence of a bonnet scoop would give away the fact it’s a wolf in Camry’s clothing.

Available as both a sedan and a roomy station wagon, the Subaru Liberty has become extremely popular for families around the world. But what if you’re looking for sports car performance to go along with that family practicality? The Subaru Liberty GT is the perfect compromise.

The fourth generation of the Subaru Liberty GT was first released in 2003, equipped with a 5-speed manual or auto with a 2L turbocharged boxer engine pushing out a healthy 180kW. In 2006, the Gen 4 Liberty was facelifted, which saw updated styling as well as an upgrade to the 2.5L turbocharged boxer 4 and the option to select the six-speed manual found in the WRX STI.

Thanks to Subaru’s Symmetrical AWD system, the Liberty GT can handle with the best of them and with that turbocharged power under the bonnet, it’s like having your own personal rally car for the road – a title usually reserved for the WRX.

Like the WRX, the Liberty GT also has a tonne of performance potential and an abundance of aftermarket parts available for it. Whether you want big power, or more handling prowess, the Liberty GT can do it all. One area that should not be neglected when it comes to upgrading your car are the brakes, and Bendix has the right brake pads to suit your Liberty GT.

The Bendix Ultimate is a street performance brake pad that is engineered for pure stopping power on windy roads or on the track. However, daily drivability is not compromised, thanks to the special Bendix noise absorbing shims. Providing excellent pedal feel from the get-go, the Bendix Ultimate is highly tolerant of extreme temperatures for fade free braking.
