The Story So Far.....

Posted 14-07-2010 at 10:11 AM by Master D

So, since my last post not a whole lot has changed - i still have the car. Its still great.

So I thought i go back to the start for me and show off my previous car - lame as it was ( we all had to start somewhere)

So my first car was a 1990 Ford Falcon.
Auto, 4L inline 6. this car was an absolute gem. Granted the paint was screwed, the suspension was soft and the exhaust was loud as piss. it had a 2.5" lukey exhaust and i put a new stereo in the mother. It had a Pioneer deck with Mp3 Capability, 4" sony 2 ways in the front doors & 6" sony 3ways on the parcel shelf.
i loved this car to bits. As much of a heap it was when i got rid of it,it was a reliable car that cost me not a whole lot to keep on the road. i did all the servicing and work to it & it never skipped a beat the 3.5yrs of punishment it had from me.

Ford Was with me from early 2004 til mid 2007.

June 2007 - Subaru Enters the equation.

I had been looking for a new-er car for a while and spotted the RS in a auto trader ad on night. liked the look and took it for a drive the next afternoon.... loved it. 1 week later i had a shiny new-ish 2002 Subaru RS2.5 Impreza Sitting in the driveway.

First Order Of Business - Stereo.

A week later I bought and installed a new head unit - An Alpine CDA9883E..

I put a new exhaust on it. for some reason the exhaust maker had said to me a 3" would be great for my little car - so i had it made to fit and the numb nuts who installed it didn't listen to any of my requests of how i wanted it installed. subsequently, i didn't do any research on what i really wanted - i just wanted it louder than stock to hear the "rumble". BIG Mistake.

So my little zip zip impreza went from being a responsive squirt to being a LOUD POS that i couldn't even stand to drive. ( Not right for a car a month old)

So i did some investigation into what was best for my car and instead of seeing the same company, i went to a guy in leederville everyone recommended and my car was transformed back to a not so noisy little dak dakk.

I Had some tint put on the car and really the car stayed this way for a fair while.

AHG Day:D

Hell, I even took it down the drags - Yep 17sec pass. WOW!

Xmas 2009: After an excursion off the road near barbagello after
a no limits night - the subi had a big ding in the side, flat tyres and a driver very much embarassed by my actions.

Pics For damage:

So I Thought since the cars off the road - lets get some new rims.

Bring On Stock 17" WRX Rims..

Since the drivers side skirt was screwed from the crash i sourced a new set of skirts and had them painted white...

and the obligitrary P-diddy stickers and rexpo stickers..

i only picked the car up from the repairer 2 days before rexpo

So i guess thats where the story ends..

the car has now only done 2,500kms since its 200k service in january and im still as happy with the car as i was when i bought it 4 yrs ago.

as a few would know im look at upgrading to an STI at some stage but to be honest im not in a great rush because:
1 - im still paying this car off
2 - granted its not as fast as a wrx - but i still giggle when i can keep up with most wrx's through the twisty sections and i still love driving the beast.

cheers for reading

oh and yes i know an sti will be even better :D.

Stay tuned for the next installment....

if you are keeping up with STI's thru the twisties then they aren't driving hard enough!! :P

Serious hat time... Nice work Dave. I loved my 06 NA when I had it... it was still all the joys of owning a subaru without the boost and the higher insurance premiums.

I know you'll get into an STI soon enough.. Look forward to hearing about it.

cheers jamie. yeah, i made the mistake of taking a couple of sti's for test drives a month back.
    VERY ADDICTIVE!
so needless to say im hooked. its the first car ive driven that's properly impressed me...

about a year back i was looking into XR6 Turbos.. took a couple for a drive. they were quick but didn't have the "in the pants" kinda feeling i was hoping for.
after 1 drive of an 02/03 sti, i found what i was looking for.
unfortunatly i couldnt justify the money asked and the bank was hitting me with a stupid interest rate so i jumped back in the rs and drove away. not quite as fast but hey im still enjoying the abilities of the car.
    ah well.

Good to see you are enjoying the car & not rushing into things, silly question but isn't it an RX? Or is that just the Liberty upgrade.

Regarding not getting the right rates from the bank and having to get back into your RS, just means it gives you more time to hone your skills till you're ready for some STil'n

i thinking once i get a home sorted i will start thinking about a new car or project toy car.
as in a few years time mine wouldn't be worth selling and hey, who likes a good project car.

    ***UPDATE***

So the tuning arvo was a heap of fun. The tyres are awesome.
I had a great time on the friday. So bad news i have well and truely cooked the front rotors. After some hot laps around the big circuit they got really hot - eg rotors were blue hot. So Its time for some new rotors and some better pads. Oh yeah and just for giggles i stripped the back of the car out just to see what bigger/smaller difference it made. I think it definatly helped things not having all the extras in the back but fun anyways.
