The cyclists that stay 2 abreast or that are riding quite a way out in to the road are actually doing the sensible thing. It forces the car drivers to slow down and consider their overtake and also forces them to move right in to the other lane to overtake...its not ideal on a busy or narrow road but I understand them doing it when you often see cars just squeezing past.

You cannot be serious!?! Slowing down and filtering to the right lane is more hazardous than constantly keeping on the same lane.

I try riding to and from work as often as possible, it less stressfull, good for you and gives me some 'think' time. Riding on a road shared with cars is suicide however.

and lycra is not masculine in any shape or form and to do so is delusional at best.

Of course it's more hazardous, it means merging and we all know how great West Australians are at merging...

Very serious! Would you rather hold someone up for a minute and force them to use a completely different lane to you or have them try and pass inside the same lane as you with only a foot or so of clearence to play with?

Every wondered why you see people on motorbikes ride in the middle of the lane or towards the centre of the road? Same reason...make yourself visible and force people to go around properly rather than think they can squuuueeeeeeze past in the same lane.

Any driver worth his salt would have noticed the cyclist several hundred meters earlier and planned their overtake well in advance anyway

You will be fine, just as long as you stay away from any form of cognac

Of cause you would have to avoid them by filtering into other lane, if not you will be running them into the river.

If we could avoid from filtering unnecessarily and having the cyclist on their designated cycle track, won’t that be safer?
Of cause, if there is no designated cycle track than cyclist would have to perform their own HSE for maximum visibility.
If not, life sucks boy!

Motorbikes don't ride in the middle of the lane that's where most of the oil drips are. But you're right, most ride to make themselves as visible as possible.

Road cyclists don't ride directly in the gutter as there's where all the nails and glass is.

Lots of bike paths are great for families, mountain bikes and hybrids but they suck on a proper road bike, too easy to buckle a wheel and it's too hard to dodge the walkers and dogs at the speed they travel.
