Default yellow sticker in my front yard

Hi this morning I was driving my girlfriends car. I had just gotten home pulled up out the front of my house, gotten out of my car and proceeded to my front door. I then noticed a police vehicle pull up behind me. They then stopped me and informed me that one of the headlights wasnt working. I turned them back on and they were all working fine.
The officer and his partner then began to inspect the vehicle and then issued a work order.
I was wondering if anybody knows the legalities as to stop me for a broken headlight (which was actually working fine) on my front lawn when I wasnt even in the car.

Unlucky. I didnt think they could do that unless they had flashed their lights before you entered your property.

Yeah i thought once you get into your property, they can't really do anything unless they clearly attempted to pull you over before you pulled in?

what did you end up getting stickered for then?

Pretty sure they are not allowed to do that. That said, my younger brother had the same happen to his VN a few years ago. He was evading the cops though and was lucky he only got the sticker.

You're above the law because you pulled into a driveway now?

when you have entered into your property in the closed garaged or fenced off is when its safe IIRC

When it at the front/outside garage or even after your mail box you could still be done
and especially on the front lawn before your mailbox is also fair game

I might be wrong with the above tho

In saying all that its pretty dog of them to do that bad luck man
I think they wanted to get the KPI's up for the week?

That sucks, but tbh they can probably do what they want!

I wouldn't bother fighting it, because even if you win they will wait down from the road next week and yellow you whilst driving (even if your car is road worthy)

Still I feel for you mate, that's hard luck.

Less watching American law tv shows. More learning about WA law.

They've seen you driving the car and can issue the sticker whenever they feel like it.
