OP, I had my 180 for 10 years. It was my daily, granted not too many km's a year averaging 12K but I never went thru tyres that quickly. I suggest going to a reputable wheel shop and getting it set up properly. Mine was setup by John @ WW and I never had a problem with it.
As for the battery yes it can be a pain. If you are not running a lot of high end stereo gear then a smaller one will suffice, otherwise check out the silviawa forums on how to relocate it to the boot.
