Removing rear badges... safely
Has anyone removed the chrome S U B A R U and small WRX badges off the rear boot lid of their 05 WRX/STi?
Just wondering if these are merely stick on and if it's possible to remove them without leaving any marks and/or outlines in the paint after removal... Cheers Ed |

best way is to get some dental floss and a hair dryer.
warm up the adhesive on the back of the letters, then use the dental floss to seperate the bootlid from the adhesive. after you've finished removing all the letters, get some citrus based cleaner to remove the leftover gunk. i think its called desolv-it. |

use a creditcard to get under the letters. then give the paint a nice polish.. should come up alright... even a bit of gue remover stuff to get rid of any residue or citric acid... be gentle with it tho..
Maybe, wait for Jan to tell you.. he has done his and u can't see the marks... I don't think. |

my intention was giving you as many options as possible, there are so many ways people have done this and they mention problems encountered, what to do after and everything. It was simply an attempt to help. anyways do as you wish!

Done mine the other day used hairdryer to heat each letter up melts the glue and makes them alot easier to get off, then just used some thin fishing line and sawed each letter off pretty easy!
Hardest bit is taking the glue/goo off the boot takes awhile and is annoying use Bug&tar remover, Big kevs goo remover, prepsol or eucalyptus oil each one should work . . .

they're only suck on with a sort of thin double-sided adhesive pad, they're not glued directly to the paint.
i used a hairdryer to soften the adhesive, and fishing wire to saw down the back of the letters through the adhesive shit. then eucalyptus oil to remove the stickiness (pain in the rectum -- i'd suggest something more powerful). then car polish (something more abrasive, then something finer) to remove the marks. unless you literally try to scratch the adhesive off with something sharp, it's not a very dangerous exercise.
