It is illegal for the DVD to work in the front if visible to the driver while the car is moving.

Pretty sure the good units will run the DVD on a rear screen and Nav on the front but don't quote me as I haven't used one myself.

Technically, you're right, but you're also wrong. You can have your screen working in the front if you have a passenger (in the front seat) in the car. I never ever close my screen down, regardless of who I have in the car with me, and I haven't been pulled over once for it.

Infact, when I last got pulled over for speeding, I had a music DVD going and the screen up when the police man leaned in thru my window to tell me what a bad boy I had been. No mention of the DVD player.

But, technically, the screens come with a earth cable that connects to the handbreak, and when the handbreak is off, the unit is un-earthed, and you can't watch the screen, so that would prevent you from watching DVD's while driving, and I think any installer who is found guilty of installing a "work-around" for this is liable for a hefty fine, so they usually won't do it.

But, we are going off on a tangent.

Paul, get a decent screen, and then just spend the $700max for a Navman or a Tom Tom. There are numerous threads covering which one's are good and bad, so I won't go into that. Hit me up if u wanna deal for the whole lot. I know some people, who know some people, who robbed some people (read: mate works at JB's) I owe you for ur insurance help over the last few years Also, I have a pressing matter to discuss with you at your earliest convenience. kthnx

Just out of curiosity has anyone gone the car PC route with their audio / everything else you could buy systems and got it working properly or are units like the AVN 6000 still a better route to go????
