HIJACK!!

is this power antenna thing relative to GC/GF's aswell or just the later models?? mine has crap radio reception too ( i have an alpine head unit though, re: impresiv's post re: alpine ). im almost positive the power antenna wire didnt come into the install..... should i look ?

ps: previous owner's install was waaayyyy dodgey, had to clean up heaps of the wiring

Is your antenna all the way out? I prob gonna get flamed for this, but i had the same problem, i was like wtf is my radio fucked, ended up being that i had the antenna all the way in

Nahhh I'm telling ya's the installer is great at what he does...he can't f*&%$n believe it as he has done hundreds of them in the past. He's really been quality with all the work. I'll give it a couple days and then let him know the bad news - although it is better now but aarrrggggggggggggggggg!!!!

yehh maybe m8 but not 5 or 6 times in a row on the same job/car
he isn't getting paid anymore to keep friggin around with it - he just wants it done right so i ain't going to keep using up his resources.

Instead of the usual "power antenna" dribble..

Would you be able to supply a picture of how he's wired the back of the head unit?

That way we can have a look at what he's done and maybe give you a better solution to the problem.

Wasn't saying your installer was bad or anything. Just giving the usual troubleshooting route. If the stock deck plugs in and works fine, then you can slowly narrow it done to what the problem is.

Lots of people running aftermarket decks with no problems, so you need to find out where the problem lies.

Intra - yehh i should take the face off and take a Pic or two to post on here. Might have to do that when i get a chance cause doesn't seem like I'm getting anywhere thus far.

Kato - yes the stock deck works fine, the Alpine deck works fine in another car but not in mine. Tried another deck from Alpine and same problem. Tried another deck from Pioneer and works better but still not right. So what is the next step you suggest for "process of elimination"? I was thinking of putting in an aerial the size of a tv roof antenna hey!!!

Post up the picture of your wiring so some of us can check it out.

If the stock deck works fine there must be a problem with wiring somewhere. Start over again and make sure it is all plugged in correctly.

Alternatively, buy one of those adapter harnesses that plug into the stock harness and straight into the deck... No dramas that way then.
