Stereo installation
Hello all, just bought JBL amp, speaker and front splits. Would like some advice about the power leads and the RCA leads. The sales person recons most cars have their power leads running down the driver’s side, so I should run my power leads the same root, and the RCA down the left hand side.Dont want to do the job twice.
Advise and experience appreciated. |

With electris windows you'll have power leads on both sides. But yea it is common practice to run them that way. I take it you already know about the benifit of keeping the RCA's away from power because of the interference so you're already half way there!

You dont HAVE to run it through those routes, although, its probably the best way to go.
In my liberty I had the power running through the centre of the car (dont ask) and in my rex, my power runs along side the RCA, and I dont get any interference. Maybe Im just lucky, but as far as I am aware, if the wiring has good shielding, then generally, they shouldnt interfer with each other......dont quote me on that as I am guessing and dont know for sure. |

This thread will do cause its to do with an install : )
Do most people these days run their amps etc at 2 ohms? Instead of 4? Also, when you put a removable sub box in the boot, how is it secured? whats the normal method?

In the past I've used brackets secured to the box and then screwed into the floor = no movement when taking bends at speed. i'm guessing you would need a crap load of velcro to achieve the same result but at least you would have no holes...

genrally speaking running a lower impedance will give you more power but wont give you as much control of the cone. depending on the amp it will run hotter at lower impedance's aswell thus causing distortion etc |

amp is a Kicker ZX350.4
90w x 4 @ 2ohms Will be powering some JL splits in the front doors (plan on running each of these of a channel) and the other two channels feeding a JL 12 sub in a ported box. Front splits are rated at 85w rms continuous, sub is designed for a min of 60w RMS and a max of about 300w RMS... will run the rear door speakers off the deck. Sound like it will work?

sure will.
only thing is you might not be able to get a good balance your front and rears... and the splits are probably 4 ohm, so you wont be getting 90W out of the big girl. but the sub will go good. providing the sub is a 2 ohm jobby too.
