Reparing Gravel Rash
Looks like I'm just going to paint my existing rims a different colour and was curious how one has gone about smoothening out the gravel rash.
I've had a quick scan around my rims and didnt notice anything to sinister, but was wondering how people go abouts undertaking the repairs. I was just going to take some sand paper and block back the ruffled edges, but in the case I get over excited I was wondering what people do to get a flat finish. I was thinking when it comes to scuffs on the leading edge of the rim, to just uniformly block that back to get a flat edge, not always going to be possible though. I have access to damaged aluminium rims, wondering if it would be as easy as taking some scrapings, heating them up and applying it to low spots? 'or is there going to be issues with different types of alloys not being able to bond together'. Additional info greatly appreciated. Cheers,

Thinking this over, probably going to be just as easy to get out some pin hole putty after undercoating.

Any kerb marks you can take out with a flat file then some 600 wet & dry followed by some 800, if you've got pits you can do the same with w&d or get some scraping putty (comes in a tube) any bare metal needs to be undercoated with etching primer then prime, rub back with a scouring pad, hit with top coat then lacquer.
Make sure you clean everything with Prepsol before painting too.

^^ +1, going to just rub down first coat of primer, spot putty it up, rub down and light coat of primer over the top before refinishing.
Will be giving all rims a thinners and prepsol bath, due to silicon issues with over sprayed tyre shine and brake dust. Don't know why I even bothered suggesting remoulding the rims with a different manufacturer alloy.
