Default MY01 stock stereo replacement

Hi all,

I've got an MY01 WRX which I've had since new. Probably the only unmodified WRX in oz!

Anyways I'm thinking of replacing the stock double din 6 stack cd player with something newer. Must haves are Bluetooth and iPhone/iPod connectivity. Looking at just the head unit only and spending under $400... Hopefully something that is plug and play.

Any good head units that you could recommend? If I go single DIN where can I get a new surround, costs etc?

Cheers

If your gonna go and replace your stock unit with a double din setup i would highly recommend this pioneer double din head unit.

Pioneer 5.8" In Dash 2 DIN Multimedia Receiver - Car & AV Navigation - JB Hi-Fi - Smashing Prices!

Just put this one in mine and did one for my mate as well love it ! Has bluetooth audio streaming, bluetooth calling, dvd, radio, usb input, rear view camera (not included but can add). Ontop of that you can change the colours of it and set background images shop around should be able to pick it up for under $500 and its a new model unit 2012 !

However if you wanna go single din and are looking for a surround i have one i took out of mine that will fit got a alpine single din unit that supports ipod if you want too will give it to ya for under $100

Pioneer sounds interesting, did you have to get a separate iPod control cable? Did you use a harness adapter?

i directly wire my head units in as opposed to using harness adapters and both units i speaking about have ipod control cables. Personally i like the double dins though cause you can search and see your music layed out infront of you instead of having to scroll through on a single din !

Cheers mate, out of interest where did you run the iPod cable to? Are you using a mount for it or hidden away?

Because the pioneer unit supports bluetooth audio streaming i connect it via bluetooth play music on my phone and it plays through the head unit no cords no running wires under carpets and centre consoles just top quality sound wirelessly i just use the usb port at the front of the unit to charge my phone every now and then!

Ended up installing a single din Pioneer 6450BT. Used the aerpro harnesses which other than one of them being the wrong harness in the original box, worked fine.

The only issue is the dimmer function doesn't work when the headlights are turned on. Checked the aerpro harness and the orange wire isn't wired through (corresponds to pin 1 on the factory harness which I believe is Illumination +. Looking on the net it appears the stock harness also has an Illumination - pin 7. This pin isn't connected at all.

If I wire the orange cables on both ends of the aerpro harness thru (pin 1) will the dimmer work or do I also need pin 7 ?

Cheers
