I have just bought an eclipse. Cost me 350 and its great. has lots of good features for the price (Triple 5volt pre outs etc) Its a flip face and has adjustable face angle. I was always an alpine man but Im very impressed with the unit. Has had some great reviews in car audio / motor magazines

Dan,

You sound about the same as me in terms of what you want. Dont really care about smashing windows with the bass or volume but just want some very good sound quality. Some of the new pioneer units have built in blue tooth so you dont need to go and fit a car kit and have some butcher chopping wires behind the dash. Just and idea.

I've got an Alpine AI-Net Head Unit, with Ipod integration (you have to buy an additional 'box') and its great to have the ipod connected up with heaps of songs to browse through, a few stereo shops that dont sell alpine reckoned the ipod integration was a load of wank and the quality isnt any good, but I can confirm its as clear as cd. JB Hi-fi sell alpine now too, so you should be able to get something pretty cheap as they always negotiate, I think mines a CDA-9851.

u drive a r34 GTR, a car that alot of people dream of. people please dont mention sony because thats the sort of deck you put in a 1991 toyota corolla. if you got $400 spend it on a Alpine or eclipse, i personally have a /////ALPINE CDA 9815 in my s13 lovely deck and has sooo much sound settings to customize to your type of music.

as with all things "cars" you get what you pay for
good luck and try and shop around go to at least 3 or 4 stores and never pay the marked price for car Audio no mater how cheap the price is!
