Default neons

i had a cop pull me up the other day and i asked him about neons and what the law was... he first said "what do you think the law is?"

and i said

"it's fine if u can't see the tube and as long as there's no light coming from the front", to which he replied

"any light visible from any part of the vehicle other than headlights, tail lights, or indicators is illegal"

thoughts?

he's just a dumbasse who doesn't know the law's he is spose to enforce... they ammended the law regarding neons about 6 or 8 months ago to allow them from what i was told by a police officer when he asked me about the one's in my footwell when i got pulled over one night.... so i presume he either doesn't know the law has been changed or he was just bein a sikhunt and pullin your leg

It really does depend on what he's actually trying to "charge" you with I believe. If he's saying that the car is not roadworthy and wants to give you a work order (yellow sticker) then he's wrong. The pits have released a newsletter stating the rule about seeing the tube and flashing etc rule. However, technically, only an emergency vehicle (cops, ambulance and fire)can display a blue or red light visable from the front. Also, according the ADR rules, no car (except emergency vehicles) can display red at the front or white at the back because of confusion as to the vehicles travel direction at night. So technically you are breaking these laws by using neons if the colors conflict with those rules.

Western Powers Fault repair vehicles are also classed as an emergency vehicle now and fit into that catagory

To avoid any confusion, I have a copy of ADR legislation issued to me by a licensing officer, which states exactly what darren has said -

1) You cant see the tube
2) They cant flash or be made to flash
3) The light cannot reflect off any chrome parts

Thats the gist of it, if anyone wants a copy for there records (ie to keep the cops off your back!) msg me and I'll scan it for u.

Josh

Here's the document regarding undercar lighting.

As far as how cool they are. Judge for yourself
I like mine the way it is, even if it is just an RX
