Default changing HVAC lighting on 01+ (Guide)

thanks jester for hosting pics

tools required are
- phillips head screw driver
- small needle nose pliers
- wire cutters or small hack saw
- drill and assorted drill bits around 4.5 5mm ish

to access the bulbs you first have to open up the cup holder
and remove the 2 screws behind it

slide out the cup holder unit

the facia of the HVAC and DIN surround is held on by 4 clips 2 at the top and 2 at the bottom pull out and twist slightly and they should pop out ok

next you need to pull the dials off of the air con controls they should slide off quite easily using just your fingers

on the back of the unit you will see six screws into the white plastic backing, remove these

ok looking at the front you can now see the incandescent OEM bulbs
they look like this

these are the wide beam LED replacements

you need to open out the little wire legs

then slide the bulb out of the housing

now you need to drill out the center off the housing using the drill

now cut the housing down using wire cutters or a small hacksaw might do a neater job just about the locking lugs

bend out the legs on the LED

insert the replacement led

bend the LED legs up into position

replace all the bulbs with the power and lights on so you can make sure the connections are good before reasembling the unit

then reasemble the unit in the reverse order

finished product

happy modding

you have to do it when you have all the hvac stuff out
reach in behind and twist out the globe holder at the top of the illumination ring
this bulb is just straight blug and play like the dash holders so no drilling and cutting.
